Linda Brodkey
Linda Brodkey came to the UCSD in 1992 where she was a Professor in the Department of Literature and the Director of the Warren College Writing Program. She taught graduate courses on writing research and pedagogy and undergraduate courses on essay writing. She is widely known for her books--Academic Writing as Social Practice and Writing Permitted in Designated Areas Only--and essays--"I Site," "Modernism and the Scene(s) of Writing " and "Writing on the Bias"--on literacy and composition.

It is with sadness that we relay the news of Linda Brodkey’s passing in March 2018. Professor Brodkey came to UCSD in July 1992 and became Professor in the Department of Literature and the Director of the Warren College Writing Program. She taught graduate courses on writing research and pedagogy and undergraduate courses on essay writing. She was widely known for her books—Academic Writing as Social Practice (Temple, 1987) and Writing Permitted in Designated Areas Only (Minnesota, 1996)—as well as numerous articles on literacy and composition, many in the journal College English, including “Modernism and the Scene(s) of Writing” (1987), “Writing on the Bias” (1994), and “I Site” (1996). Professor Brodkey retired in June 2012. We extend our condolences to Professor Brodkey’s family and friends.
