LTWR 220 - TOPICS IN WRITING
Horror
Instructor: Jaclyn Jemc

The umbrella of horror literature contains writing that operates in many different modes—the horrific, the uncanny, terror gore and dark fantasy, among others—and features myriad common tropes—haunted houses, ghosts, monsters and zombies, to name just a few. In this course we'll read texts that aim to unsettle readers using a variety of different tactics, and then experiment putting these devices to use in our own creative work. Possible course texts include: Yoko Ogawa's Revenge, Kathryn Davis's Hell, Mariana Enríquez's Things We Lost in the Fire, Helen Oyeyemi's White is for Witching and Amparo Dávila's The Houseguest.
